I'm delighted to bring you this modern and elegant wedding today. The couple Gaynor and Ash chose Wentbridge House Hotel as their venue. The wedding was captured perfectly by Jo Bennett Photography.
I met my husband when I had a part time job as a sales assistant at Junction 32, while I was going through university. Ash also worked at the shop and a few months into working there we started dating. We have been together since 7th November 2010. We then got married 16th June 2018.
The proposal story| I honestly thought the day was never going to come that Ash would propose. I had waited for so long that I started to think it was never going to happen. In December 2015 we bought a house together and moved onto a new build estate to start our lives together as home owners. From that point on I don’t think I stopped nagging for him to propose, it was safe to say I had become obsessed. Anyway time passed and nothing had happened so I began to just forget about the whole thing.
Finally on April 1st 2017 (yes April fools day!!), we had decided to go out into Leeds for drinks and food, just an ordinary date night. So off we went all dressed up into Leeds for cocktails and a meal as we had planned and I was totally oblivious to the fact he was going to finally propose.
So in Miller and Carter at The Light we sat down for our meal, ordered and the starter arrived with a rolled up note in it (I thought nothing of this and tucked into the breadsticks). So he asked me ‘what is that?’, I opened it thinking it was just a special offer voucher or something, to find a note saying the time had come to ask me an important question. As a stopped reading the note and looked down, there he was on one knee and asked me to marry him. Of course I said yes (as I cried with so much emotion), the whole restaurant cheered and he even had given the waitress his phone to take a picture when he sneaked to the toilet when we first got there.
The wedding planning| Well Ash found the whole thing a breeze and I’m not actually sure what he planned (haha!).
I was very much in control of the planning (he's far too laid back). I am an organised person so found the planning process not too stressful. I made sure I gave myself plenty of time before the wedding to book in appointments with companies who we were interested in using.
Spreadsheets are your bible when planning. I made sure everything was on spreadsheets such as cost, due dates and overall costs.
I would recommend after booking your venue and wedding date to start searching and booking appointments with photographers, florists and the wedding cake. You will be shocked how soon some get booked in advance and you don’t want to miss out.
We were both involved when it came to picking the theme we wanted for the wedding. We went more with a colour scheme rather than a ‘theme’. We both knew we wanted rose gold, blush pink with a hint of mint green (however the mint green wasn’t really a main part in the end). We knew we wanted everything to be modern and elegant, so with the colours in mind we went from there.
The venue|We went to see a few venues together before we made a decision. Overall we visited five venues before deciding we would get married at Wentbridge House Hotel.
Now for me I have always dreamed of getting married there (so my dream came true!). However, Ash really liked The Woodlands, which I also said was a lovely venue. So we ended up writing the negative and positives down for both to help us decide. But, they came up equal.
In the end Ash said we could have Wentbridge House as he knew it was my dream to get married there. There were so many factors that drew us to Wentbridge House Hotel.
The staff cannot do enough for you, before your wedding day, during the wedding and even after now if I get in touch. They all work so hard and do the Wentbridge proud.
The Crystal Suite is beautiful. The colour scheme is natural so you can make your own colour scheme come to life, with lots of space and lovely big windows for natural light.
The outdoor areas is stunning and kept maintained at all times. It is perfect for your photographs and can be a great area for your guests to mingle during the drinks reception.
The food is delicious. Everything is served to high standards and the taste is out of this world. We had so many compliments on the quality of the meal and evening food.
What type of ceremony did you have|We had an outdoor ceremony at Wentbridge House Hotel on the grounds under the structure they have built. We had always wanted to get marred outdoors so the weather being lovely for us was perfect. This also meant we could have our drinks reception outside straight after, it all flowed perfectly.
Finding the dress|I got my dress from Hoops A Daisy in Wakefield. It was my second shop I had been to and took my mum, Auntie Mandy and Ash’s mum Diane.
I was torn between two very different dresses when we went and it took a while to decide which I wanted. It wasn’t until I had my photograph in both dresses and looked on the phone I knew it was THE ONE! It was strange how looking in a mirror and then looking at a picture of myself totally changed my opinion. I was so glad we did this as I absolutely loved my dress and I am over the moon with the one I chose.
Everyone who worked at Hoops A Daisy were amazing and helpful throughout my whole wedding dress experience. I always felt welcome on all my visits and the booking system made it very personal every time I visited. Whenever I visited I was given 100% of their attention and I was truly grateful for this as it made what could have been a stressful time so enjoyable and smooth.
For my maid of honour I had Beth (my best friend from college).
As bridesmaids I had Amy (my best friend from university), Nicola (my sister in law), Kayleigh (fiancée to the best man and also one of my very close friends) and Cara (my younger cousin, but basically a sister).
On the morning of the wedding I got ready at Wentbridge House with all my bridesmaids, mum, mother in law and auntie. The makeup stylist and hairdresser came to us and we started getting pampered from 7.30am. Getting ready at the venue was so relaxed and enjoyable. Already being there after we had all stayed the night before meant we were all prepared and could have an easy morning.
To make it even better we had the room next to my bridal suite to get ready in (have makeup and hair done). Which left my bridal suite tidy and ready for the professional photographs once the photographer came at 11am.
Ash got his suits from Suit Direct at Junction 32. The price was amazing, all paying £120 each for their three piece suit and it was then their own to keep as they weren’t rented.
Ash had Liam (his best friend) as his best man, Callum (another close friend) as his groomsman and Gavin (his brother in law) as his Usher.
Ash said he felt very relaxed about the whole thing (which doesn’t surprise me as he is so laid back about EVERYTHING!). However he said as the time got closer to 1pm he got more nervous. As they got ready in another room at Wentbridge House he paced the room as his groomsman told him to sit down, but he couldn’t.
We both decided we wanted to get each other our fragrances for the wedding morning. We did this as we wanted something new we could wear and would always remind us of our wedding day. With it being from each other it is even more memorable, as we think about opening the gift and the whole day now when we smell our fragrances.
We also bought each other a little something else to open. I bought Ash a personalised pocket watch with our wedding date on. He got me personalised pyjamas with Mrs Shaw on and Wifey.
Most memorable part of the day|This is such a hard question. There is not a moment I don’t remember as I took some advice from friends and made sure I stopped throughout the day to take it in all.
Hmmm… It has probably got to be walking down the aisle and filling up with so many emotions while heading to meet Ash. The feeling as everyone watches you, the fact I hadn’t seen him since the night before, the music and of course knowing your about to marry the man you want to spend the rest of your life with.
Are you going to have a honeymoon| Yes we have a honeymoon planned and we cannot wait for it. We haven’t been able to go straight away as I work in a school so had to wait until the school holidays. However, this has been unbelievably great as we have been able to enjoy our cake, flowers, gifts and even settling into married life. Having the few weeks for everything to sink in has been a lovely start to married life and given us something to look forward to instead of rushing straight away.
We will be jetting off soon to Mexico, Cancun for 2 weeks. We are staying at a luxurious 5 star hotel and even upgraded for a swim up suite with it being our honeymoon. We are so thankful everyone helped us with honeymoon donation as gifts, so we have been able to an amazing first holiday as a married couple.
Any advice for future brides & Grooms
1. Be organised. Keep on top of everything and the whole planning and day will be stress free.
2. Don’t do things to please everyone else and you will never make everyone happy. It’s your day, so make it what you dream, not them.
3. Take moments throughout the day just to stop and take it all in.
4. Enjoy yourselves. If you want to be on the dancefloor all night with your besties and close family instead of talking to people you hardly see, then do it. I did and my goodness what a fun night I had.
Thank you Gaynor and Ash for sharing your wonderful wedding with The Yorkshire Bridal readers.
